What is the Big 3? What is my rising sign? What is my moon sign? What does my rising sign mean?
These are all popular questions that people have when they first begin to explore and become interested in Astrology. So, here’s a quick and easy to understand guide explaining what each one means and its impact on your Natal/Birth Chart!
Your Sun Sign
Your sun sign is what most people are referring to when they ask the question ‘What’s your star sign?’. This is the main sign that pretty much the whole world knows about themselves, even if they aren’t remotely interested in Astrology.
Your sun sign is who you are at your core. It is your identity and your truest self. However, it doesn’t mean that you were born that way. You may be an Aries (like me) but not display many leadership qualities that Aries are known for… but it is believed that this is who you are destined to be and eventually you will grow into your sun sign. Your sun sign is useful for knowing how you show up as yourself, and your self-expression.
If your sun sign is a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)… you are most likely a passionate person, motivated by your dreams and goals. You love ticking off boxes on your to-do list and you’re at your best when you’re feeling accomplished.
If your sun sign is an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)… you’re most likely an intellectual and social being. You love being around friends and learning new things whether that’s culture, art, sports, travel, music. You’re feeling your best when you’re exploring these things with your closest friends.
If your sun sign is a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)… you’re most likely a deep human being with intense emotional connections to people and experiences. You’re at your best when you’re connecting with others and sharing profound experiences.
If your sun sign is an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)… you’re most likely a very grounded and down-to-Earth human being, you like it when others are realistic and honest with you. You’re at your best when you’re connected to your passions and this is most-likely done alone or in a very small group of friends.
Your Moon Sign
Your moon sign (along with your Rising and Sun) make up the most important aspects of your Birth Chart. Your Moon side is best described as the person you are at home. The person you are in an environment that is the most comfortable and familiar to you and when you are around the people you love the most. It is a deeply emotional aspect of your chart. It is how you are in your inner, private world and also how you relate to others emotionally.
If your moon sign is a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)… you most likely have a lot of excitement with your emotional reactions and love being driven. You feel most like yourself when you are expressing your passions and things you are confident in.
If your moon sign is an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)… you feel most at home when you’re expressing yourself socially and when you’re organising an activity or chatting as part of a group. Your emotions are best explored with others in addition to exploring them on your own.
If your moon sign is a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)… you feel comfortable when you and others are expressing themselves truthfully, deeply and emotionally as this appeals to your deep nature and you value this shared emotional experience. You’re sensitive and emotional – definitely not a bad thing!
If your moon sign is an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)… you’re most likely on the reserved side emotionally, preferring to figure things out on your own before seeking advice. You’re incredibly stable and reliable and offer these positive benefits in your own home.
Your Rising Sign
Your rising sign is who you are when you are around others. It is your social sign. Your rising sign is based on what Zodiac sign was on the Eastern horizon when you were born aka this is how you dawn on people when they first meet you. Your rising sign can sometimes be the mask you wear when you’re hiding your true self which slowly comes off as people get to know you more intimately. Your rising sign is also how your energy comes across.
If your rising sign is a fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)… then you are a confident, driven and passionate human being. However, you can sometimes come across as aggressive or blunt to others who don’t understand your energy. Your energy itself is incredibly strong and drives both you and others towards their goals. You are definitely not the type of person to sit on their laurels waiting for things to happen, go get ’em!
If your rising sign is an air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)… then you’re most likely incredibly social, communicative, quick and witty. You appreciate intelligent conversation and love exploring things in conversation. You approach life with a childlike curiosity which always keeps you learning and on your toes.
If your rising sign is a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)… then you’re most likely an empath, you love taking care of others and doing deeds for others (whether that’s for friends or charity) is incredibly rewarding for you. You love to give but make sure you don’t give too much without filling up your own cup! You approach life by listening to your emotions and the emotions of others around you.
If your rising sign is an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)… then you are most likely a practical and stable human being. You’re the friend that others turn to for realistic advice and guidance because you always keep it real. Don’t be afraid to open up and let others get to know the real you. They will love your grounded personality!
